Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy

Persistent redness and irritation are often signs of underlying inflammation. At Mountain Vista EyeCare and Dry Eye Center, we treat the root cause with FDA Cleared Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy—a breakthrough technology designed to manage dry eye disease and bring you lasting relief.

How IPL Works

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a light-based treatment that targets the "vicious cycle" of inflammation associated with Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD). Unlike eye drops that only mask symptoms, IPL addresses the underlying causes of dry eye:

  • Reduces Inflammation: It decreases the level of pro-inflammatory mediators that cause eyelid swelling and irritation.
  • Eliminate Abnormal Blood Vessels: It closes the tiny "telangiectasia" blood vessels that contribute to chronic eyelid inflammation.
  • Fights Bacteria & Mites: The light energy helps reduce the bacterial load and Demodex mites on the eyelids, which often exacerbate dry eye symptoms.

What to Expect During Treatment

IPL is a safe, gentle, and quick "in-office" procedure.

  • Our specialists apply a cooling gel and protective shields to the treatment area.
  • The IPL handpiece is used to apply precise pulses of light to the skin below the eyes.
  • The procedure takes about 15 minutes.
  • Patients typically undergo a series of four treatments spaced a few weeks apart to achieve long-lasting results. Periodic maintenance treatments are recommended to help preserve and extend these results over time.

Is IPL Right for You?

IPL is an excellent option for patients who want to reduce their dependence on artificial tears and address the root cause of their discomfort.
